Shanghai Reds: Un-New Palm Springs at its Best

We love the "new" Palm Springs from it's world-famous music festivals to the food, wine and design of Uptown. Of course, we all know of the "old" Palm Springs and the rat pack institutions that keep it alive like Le Valleuris and Melvyns. But what sits between the new and the old?

Maybe it's "real," and Shanghai Reds is certainly that.

Tucked away behind the tourists downtown sits an unassuming bar packed to the gills with locals catching up, celebrating life and enjoying some of the best simple seafood preparations in the city. Fried fish tacos are delivered piping hot from the open kitchen behind the bar where cooks move in concert to feed the hungry crowd seated all around them. Shrimp are peeled, shrimp are eaten and fun is had.

It's dark, it's rowdy and you'll leave satisfied.

As Palm Springs continues to evolve, we're glad that authentic, casual spots like this are a part of the fabric. You won't see, you won't be seen -- and sometimes that's just what's needed.
